History of the Bear Logo

Origins of the Bear

The bear has been part of the work of Beverly Lawrence, Ph.D., L.Ac. for more than three decades. Across many traditions, the bear represents healing, wisdom, strength, and reflection. The pack symbolizes the knowledge and tools we carry through life, while the spiral represents growth, integration, and the unfolding journey of consciousness. Together, they reflect her approach: helping people recognize patterns, integrate change, and move forward with greater awareness.

The first healing business in California was Dancing Bear Alternative Healing Center and the logo was created in the early 1990s. In 1995 the dancing-bear.com website was created, later named dancingbearway.com. The website later received several awards for its educational and informational content during the early years of the World Wide Web.

A colleague wanted his articles published online, so an exchange was arranged. A friend of his painted the original bear logo, and in return his article about a shaman coat was published.

Changed the Image

The original logo captured the spirit of Dancing Bear and worked well in color. Unfortunately, on a fax (yes, this was the days of fax machines), or in print in newspapers and magazines, it became clear that a new logo was needed.

A friend at the newspaper where advertisements were placed recommended a graphic designer, who was hired to create a new logo.

The designer created the new bear logo for the healing center and the yin yang logo for the ADBO Consulting website.

When the healing center moved to California the name was changed to Dancing Bear Healing Center but the logo was retained in its original form.

Trademarked

Both the name Dancing Bear™ and the bear image itself were trademarked. Later, the name ADBO™ and its logo were also trademarked.

Current Uses

Today the bear is used for all ADBO LLC business aspects. Originally there were over 35 domain names and about 20 different websites. Almost all the websites have now been consolidated under the ADBO.com umbrella. ADBO Consulting is now under ADBO.com as are all the older legacy sites, the Dancing Bear Healing Center is now adbo.com/hh-assessments/index.html, EssentialOilsDB.com is now ADBO.com/essential-oils/index.html, and so on. DancingBearWay.com domain name now points to ADBO.com but its legacy content is now either in the DBEA app or preserved under different areas of the ADBO.com website based on its topic content.

Although the business has evolved over the years, the bear remains the enduring symbol of the work, representing healing, wisdom, growth, and the integration of knowledge across every area of ADBO.
